I used a white backdrop for this photo shoot because I wanted to have a neutral environment around the model, therefore making the audience focus mainly on her. She stood about a step away from the background which meant that the one light box that I was using had to moved quite close to avoid any shadows being made. I had the camera directly in front of the model on a tripod and did not move from the spot. I felt using a tripod during this shoot was a good idea due to the fact it would secure the steadiness and fluency for each photo.
camera set up-
I had the camera set to ISO 100, F2.8 and Shutter speed 1/125 secs. I had the ISO at 100 because I didn't want too much being allowed into the lens of the camera, this is because the background and general room was already rather light and I wanted the shadowing on the face and darker aspects of the scene to be introduced into the images.
Photoshop-
I started off by adjusting certain areas of the photo such as temperature, tint, exposure, highlights and clarity. I decided about which percentage each area should be at by eye. I wanted the overall photo to look warm and with a smoother, brighter complexion, I think this was reached throughout this process.
I then focused on the models teeth because I could see that they appeared as stained and discoloured, also their was a specific discoloured circle one of the left hand teeth. I used the quick selection tool to select the section of her teeth that I was going to be changing. Once the teeth had been selected I changed the levels making them brighter and look whiter. Now that the colour was at a colour that beauty models usually have, I tried to cover the circle by applying the spot healing brush to hide it, this kind of worked however there was still a stain there that could only be seen when looking really close at the image.
Next I moved onto editing the modes skin, I wanted it to look smooth and flawless because this is how the skin of models in beauty shoots are usually shown. I used the spot healing brush to edit away any spots or blemished from the skin and neck. This technique is often used throughout the editing process in beauty photography to create the idea that the model shows societies idea of perfection.
I then focused my attention on the backdrop as it showed stains and lines that didn't look attractive. To get rid of these problems I used the quick selection tool to select the models body, I then inverse the selection onto the background. I then used the spot healing brush against to edit out any marks on the background so that when I adjusted the levels on it the white would be the same throughout the whole image. Next I changed around the colour balance on the background creating a colour effect on the background without affecting the model.
My initial thought after finishing the photographing section of this shoot was that it hadn't turned out great, this was because there was problems with the backdrop and shadowing in the images that didn't look appealing to the eye or match the beauty theme. However after having edited the problems out of the photos and adding in the colour to the background I think that the photographs show improvements and link in with my theme of beauty.
