Personal shoot 1- Work diary

This is my best image from this shoot, this is because I believe that all elements of the image come together and work well as a unit. The pose that the model is using shows the viewer a side view of the models face where physical beauty can be seen, also the pose leads the body to tighten showing muscles and bone structure, which again are both linked to beauty photography. I think that the choice to edit the image in black and white works well and I am just overall happy with this image.

Studio set-up:
I set my studio up with a nude/beige backdrop as I wanted to try and match it similar to the models skin tone. I used a single light box on the left hand side of the photo, the reason I only used one light box was because I wanted shadowing in the image. I moved the light box a couple of times during the shoot as the shadowing was not obvious enough, this can be seen throughout my contact sheets.

Camera set-up:
I used a small hand held Lumix camera for this shoot. The lens on this camera had a low focus point of F3.5. I decided to set it at F5.6 because . The exposer time was 1/60 seconds and ISO of 1600.

Photoshop:
I had decided that this shoot was going to be in black and white and I used photoshop to do this. After uploading the image that I wanted to edit I changed the curves of the photo so that the shadowing was still noticeable however not blocking the areas of the models face. I then used the black and white setting to transfer the colours into black and white. After this I then tweaked the curves once more so that they were perfect with the black and white setting. I didn't need to do anything more in photoshop as this had created the effect on the images that I had wanted.

I believe that this shoot went relatively well and I am happy with how the photographs turned out. To me the photos show beauty in a classically simple way, they convey an old hollywood style. Even though I think the shoot went well I do believe that improvements could be implied if I were to do it again, for example during the photoshopping part I could spend more time editing the face and skin to create a more flawless and blemish free tone. This technique is used often within the beauty photography area.
