personal shoot 6- work diary

Studio set up-
I had a photo projector set at the from of the set, this was because I wanted the colour lighting to project face onto the model. I then used a flash kit of a Phottix Indra 360 Watt light + Phottix Odin and a 120cm Octoboc with inner and outer diffusion panels. This mostly lightened the model without taking anything away from the projector lighting. I had the model change positions during this shoot as there were many different light settings from the projector, therefore moved her to suit best with the lighting.

Camera set up-
For this shoot I used a Canon Eos 5D Mark III camera with a Canon 24-70mm f?2.8 L USM II lens. I set the exposure at 1/100 sec, f/2.8 and the ISO at 125. These settings helped with the fact that I was using projector as my source of colour lighting. When using darker projections I experimented with rear sync flash to capture more ambient light from the projectors images and when shooting brighter projections I used a High Speed Sync (1/400) to capture the ambient light and the detail from the projections.

Photoshop-
I didn't need to change anything through editing about the lighting for most of my shoots, I did however for one as the was a line through the models face that I needed to remove. I did this with the spot healing and the healing brush tool to duplicate part of her skin and overlay on top of the part that I no longer wanted.

Mainly I would start editing the image with the typical adjustment of curves and levels to slightly brighten the images and give them a higher distinction of quality.

I would then use the spot healing brush to blend over any spots or blemishes that could be seen in the image. The main reason for doing this was because I wanted my model to appear to have smooth perfect skin. This did not take too long to edit as once I was zoomed in to the image the blemishes became easier to notice and adjust.

I shot these images in raw which meant that the photographs aren't compressed and can lead to higher quality images. It also means that the editing stage was slightly different than my normal routine. All of the techniques and tools shown below were accessible at once so that I could easily manipulate the image into what I felt showed beauty the best. I liked this process because I was able to change any settings quickly to match any other alterations I had made to create the optimum images.

I was rather happy with this shoot and I feel that the unusual idea to use the projector for an abstract colour lighting influence really worked well. I feel that images like this can be progressed and then used in beauty/fashion advertising photography. I am happy with the outcome of the photographs and think hat it shows a completely unique and individual style, which I haven't seen in any other image.
